The baby was born on 29 March 1985 at Roswell in New Mexico. Gerina Michelle is her birth name. Gerina Stevenson was born to Mexican parentage Rita Stevenson (mother) and Alan Stevenson (father). Her heritage is Mexican American but an American nation by birth. At a very young age the desire for her to be active in sports was strong. Gerina started playing golf at the age of she was 15 years old. Gerina graduated from high school in Goddard High School. She was the winner of her place in the New Mexico State Golf Tournament at the age of high school. The volleyball abilities of her were recognised at a national scale. She was enrolled at Texas's University of Texas, Texas during the 2003 academic year. In her senior year, she won every single tournament that she participated. In her undergraduate years she won the titles that included Conference USA Female Athlete and Conference USA Individual Player of the Years.
